Should You Take a Blogging Class?
If you have never taken a blogging class and you are wanting to grow your blog, you could probably benefit from taking a blogging class. It doesn’t have to be an expensive class and the cost could be considered a business expense. I have taken two different blogging classes and had great experiences with each one. One thing you should know about bloggers is we love to learn and we love to help each other. The more time you spend around other bloggers, the more you will find this to be true. Blogging is a community. Networking with other bloggers is a great way to learn new things you can do to improve your own blog.
When you are starting out, one of the easiest ways to find other bloggers that are also working on growing their blogs is by taking a blogging class. In addition to the information provided by the class, you can make connections with bloggers at a similar level to your own. Beyond that, you could be quickly be introduced to more advanced bloggers and blogger groups.

Elite Blog Academy review
I joined the Elite Blog Academy as part of the Fall 2014 inaugural class. I had been following Ruth Soukup’s blog, LivingWellSpendingLess.com for quite awhile. When I found out she would be starting the Elite Blog Academy, I was excited because I knew she had a lot of experience blogging and I felt like I could trust her to provide practical and beneficial advice.
I’m sure you want to know if Elite Blog Academy is worth the price. As a blogger who made that leap, I can tell you from my own experience who I think would benefit most from this class and who probably wouldn’t benefit greatly this class. This course is very pricey, so you definitely want to know what you are going to get before investing that kind of money into your blog.
This course has added a ton of new information since I started, and it is currently go through a complete overhaul that will be Elite Blog Academy 3.0.
Who would not benefit from Elite Blog Academy?
If you are using a free blogging platform like wordpress.com or blogger.com, don’t even bother with the course. You would be much better off investing your money in purchasing your domain name and hosting first. Bluehost offers affordable hosting plans that are great for new bloggers and you can even register your domain name free for the first year.
If you have just started blogging, you will probably struggle with this class. This class is designed for bloggers who already know the basics of blogging, social media, and plugins and are ready to take their blogs to the next level. The technical stuff about how to set up a blog and get started with blogging is not taught in this course.
If you are a relatively new blogger, you would likely benefit more from taking a beginner-level class like Blogelina’s Profitable Blogging for Beginners. Blogelina’s classes are super affordable and provide good information as well as opportunities for networking with other bloggers. In fact, I met some of my best blogging friends by participating in one of Blogelina’s classes.
Before Starting Elite Blog Academy
If you haven’t read Ruth’s book, How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul, I would recommend reading that book first. It’s available in paperback and on Kindle. The twelve sections of the Elite Blog Academy course correspond to the twelve chapters of this book. The book provides a wealth of information that can help you improve your blog before even taking the course.
Once you have read the book and implemented the action plans, that may be enough to give your blog the boost that it needs. If you have read the book and still feel like you need more, taking this class is the perfect next step. The class expands on each of the chapters in the book with bonus materials and updated content (because blogging is constantly changing).
Is Elite Blog Academy Right For You?
If these characteristics describe you, Elite Blog Academy may be a great fit for you.
- You have been blogging for over a year and not seeing the results you would like.
- You have read Ruth’s book and still want more.
- You are serious about blogging for business and willing to invest in your blog.
I had been blogging for over a year when I started this course. Soon after joining Elite Blog Academy, I made several changes to my blog including:

What Elite Blog Academy Covers
*Note: This was the original structure of the course. The structure is now better streamlined as it transitioned to Elite Blog Academy 3.0.
The course is broken up into twelve sections. These are the same topics that are included in the twelve chapters of How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul, but the information is much more in-depth and hands-on.
- Start with Awesome
- Content is King
- Presentation is Everything
- Growing Your Platform
- Social Media and Viral Growth
- Show Me the Money
- Profit through Ad Networks
- Profit through Affiliate Sales
- Profit through Private Advertising
- Profit through Selling a Product
- Work Smarter, Not Harder
- From Blog to Business
Each section includes:
- A course video from Ruth.
- Course handouts with blanks you can fill in while following along with the videos.
- Additional handouts and assignments that pertain to that section to help you improve your blog.
Each section is structured to take a week to complete with the whole course being completed in 12 weeks. However, this course is self-paced, so you can take as much time as you need.
This course did NOT reinvent the wheel. Most of the content in this course can be found in books about blogging and from other online resources, BUT this course compiles all that information into one comprehensive course that is continually being updated. That makes this course more valuable than other blogging resources out there.
Why Elite Blog Academy?
Periodic Q&A sessions with Ruth
Ruth does periodic Q&A sessions to allow readers to ask questions and get answers directly from Ruth. Questions can be asked in advance or live via chat. These sessions are done at different days and times to accommodate different schedules and time zones. Plus, the Q&A sessions are recorded and available in the EBA dashboard if you can’t attend the sessions live.
Frequently Updated Bonus Material
This class is still relatively new, and Ruth’s team has been working hard to provide new bonus material based on the questions we have and the resources we ask for most. Some bonus material that has been created since the course originally launched includes:
- Guide to using Google Analytics
- Editorial Planning Ideas
- Pinterest FAQs
- Sample Media Kits
The class has a community forum with sections related to each of the course sections. Members can ask questions and get answers from EBA staff and other community members who may be able to help. Members are also encouraged to answer any questions they can and provide useful tips to help out their fellow bloggers.
Participants Become Life-Long Members!
I consider this the best and most unique feature of all. As materials are updated, new bonus materials are created and forum topics are added, we will have full access to all of this new information. According to Ruth, we will have access to the program as long as the internet still exists.
Just to get a taste of what Ruth has to offer, you should check out this free training called, Blogging Made Simple.
